I feel so.. icky today. I think I'm coming down with something - a cold, the flu and my stomach isn't feeling too lovely right now either. The weather isn't helping. It's windy, cold and it's snowing and raining off and on. As per usual, there's nothing for the stomach sickness. Every time I need it, we don't have it. I think I'm going to try and reach Jo's mom on her cell phone and have her pick something up on her way home. I want to do whatever I can to make sure it doesn't get much worse than it is now.

You know, I still remember what I have dubbed my "best Christmas yet". I was much younger than I am now and for months prior to Christmas, I was hoping and praying that "Santa" would bring me a Nintendo Nes system. Do you remember those? I can remember being almost to tears when I explained to my mom that there was nothing more that I wanted, other that it. I was on my best behavior for the whole year (as good as my best behavior got haha). Now that I'm older I think back to opening up that gift and seeing my very own Nintendo. Some of my close friends came straight to my house Christmas morning to play, though they didn't get much of a chance because I was somewhat of a hog with it!

I still have no idea where that system wound up. I think my parents ditched it after we moved some years later but I would love to have one of these again. It might be older but it was awesome! Oh Christmas tree...

Well, the decorations have been laid out and are slowly making their ways to the windows, the walls, the tables, the shelves and various other places around the house. Once we're done with this, we'll start working on getting the tree up and decorated. The house is in a horrible state right now and resembles the look of a tornado coming through but in the end it will be worth it because it will be looking a lot more like Christmas. I have no idea how long this task will take, considering the huge amounts of Christmas decor Jo's mom has. I'm going to guess and say we may be finished by Thursday, HAHA.

It's nice though. I'm already in the spirit and we've already been playing Christmas CDs.

New eyes

I have been wearing "reading" glasses off and on for about a year now. I think it's time to upgrade. For the last few months I have been having horrible headaches, which are usually border on the edge of a migraine. A few days ago I started noticing that my vision will sometimes be a little on the blurry side. This was actually the decision maker.

I have a feeling I will wind up with having to wear them all day. That really isn't that big of a deal but there have been a few occasions where they just annoyed me. I think that was mostly due to not being used to wearing them though. I know I really have no choice in it because vision is so important, especially as a person who's passion involve art.

I guess I will go ahead and make an appointment.

Artwalk

It should be more than obvious and come as no surprise at all, that one of my greatest passions in life is art. It is something I took an interest to early in life, thanks to my father who is an amazing oil painter (and artist in general). One of the things I have been hearing about, that I would love to be able to attend is the St. Augustine Artwalk. Really, what better place to hold such an event on the first weekend of every month, than in America's oldest city, which is filled with southern charm, history and of course wonderful artists - St. Augustine, Florida. The self guided artwalk is booming with a fabulous collections of art of all kinds - paintings, photography, music and so much more. You can enjoy free parking and a free sightseeing train and trolley tours too.

Even though I have lived in the deep south for the majority of my life (South Georgia), I never actually made it to St. Augustine. When I go back home for a visit, I believe this is something Jo and I will HAVE to be sure we do. I absolutely love gallery hopping and to have the added benefit of being in a historical, oceanside city is perfect so I cannot wait to go to a "First Friday Weekend Art Walk". I really look forward to seeing some of the pieces by Trip Harrison. I love nature, so considering this is an area of focus (gorgeous sea and landscapes) for him, I cannot wait.

Excitement

I'm so excited about doing some Christmas shopping. Jo and I will be going to Gander one day early in the week to start on it. I have a few ideas in mind for my in-laws and my own family back home but I need to get some hints from a few of them.

My sister in law is probably going to be the hardest to pick for though. She likes short, tight fitting clothing (pffth at 17). I don't like looking at anyone dressed like that, much less my 17 year old sister in law. I refuse to buy her anything like that, EVER. I think to be on the safe side though, I'll stick with buying her some pajamas and a coat, then fill her stocking up with a few stocking stuffer things.

Jo's already given me ideas about what he wants. The biggest thing is Call of Duty4, blank DVDs and a digital camera (point and shoot). The first 2 I can manage.. the last, I'll have to see which one he's talking about! HAHA.

My mother in law made it easy. She's been dropping hints for months. We're going to get her a new electric can opener, some boots and possibly a coat.

For everyone else... I am stumped!

Back to school

The first time I worked in an emergency room (worked in admissions), I was overcome with this feeling that I wanted to do more than just register the patient or do the insurance side of it all. For months all I could think about was that I wanted to follow in my aunt and cousins footsteps and become a nurse. I love people, especially when it involves helping others and what better way to do that than to provide care and compassion when they need it most. Even now, years later, I've often considered going back to school and have looked into online nursing degree programs. If it were not for my insane passion to capture and create, I think I would dive in face first this very second. My aunt has been head of a busy emergency room for the last eight years and my cousin, her daughter, has been a nurse providing "at home" nursing for about the same. I have been lucky enough to watch them both working in action and while emergency rooms may not seem like something most people would do, I have experienced it to a degree and the adrenaline rush would keep me going.

I am the type of person who likes to stay busy and I feel like nursing, depending on where I might be working, would provide that type of steady pace for me.

For those who have already taken the leap and are already practicing nursing, have you ever thought of going a step further and getting your masters? Did you know that you could do this via The University of Phoenix RN? Not only can you do that but you can also do this in the comfort of your own home, through their online courses.

Caramel cake

In about an hour, I will be shoulder deep in delicious caramel. OK, not really but I will be whipping up a yummy caramel cake for my sister in laws boyfriend. It's been a few months since I've made one, so I'm thinking I might be a little rusty. I decided to buy supplies for two, just in the event that the first one flops. I must say though, if it flops I will be pretty dern upset!

I guess I should start preheating the oven and sitting out everything I'll need. Wish me luck!

You know, one of the things I worry about when I think about this "getting older" and "aging process" thing is that as I get older and age, my bones are also getting older and aging.
